Personal:

I'm married to a very supportive, although slightly less enthusiastic runner than I.  Alisha has run a little with me and participated in several 5k's, but mostly she supports me at races.  She ran her first half in November, 2011.  We have a son who was born in 2010, the year that I ran my first marathon.  I participated in my first Triathlon in April 2011.  I think I may have been bitten by the Ironman bug.  Though an Ironman finish is a long term goal, I want to BQ first.

I find that the more I run the more I want to run.  I consider my self a running addict.  I like the motto: pain is weakness leaving your body.

This was my first run back since the marathon.  I met Kevin at 101st and Garnet and we ran for an hour on the trail towards his house.

It felt good to wake my legs back up after 8 days of time off.  It was also good to run with Kevin again after several months of conflicting training schedules.

I've been having a conversation with my friend Shane who is a very experienced runner and recent Boston qualifier from Oklahoma City.  He suggested that I change up my training in order to BQ.  His suggestion was to take the next six months and continue to run 60-70 miles per week and to also run about 4 half marathons.  This would allow me to improve my lactate threshold while also building my racing experience.  The half marathons can be run more often and require little to no recovery.  So my schedule would look like this.  4 half marathons over the next six months.  Then take a couple of weeks to recover and then build back up over six months for the next marathon.  I told him I would look at the idea, but that I had two reservations.  1. I've already signed up for my home town marathon in November.  2. This is the big one.  My work schedule make is difficult for me to run that many races that close together.  It can be hard to find that many half marathons that happen on Sunday that I don't have to travel very far to participate in.  I have to be picky about which Saturdays I take off because I only get a few per year.  If I could find all local races that I could run Saturday mornings before work I could swing it.  I will look to see if this is even feasible, but as of now I feel I will probably stick to plan A and build back up for the fall marathon.  If I don't qualify then, I will try something different.

Easy 6.  Super humid.  I'm still in recovery mode, but I'm feeling good.   A pretty windy storm blew through last night.  We had 40 mile per hour winds.  The pond outside my neighborhood had piles of trash and debris that must have blow in and collected at each end in the shallow area and on the bank.

Easy 10.  I think my body feels pretty normal again.  I may try some light speed intervals this week if I'm still feeling good.  It was such a beautiful morning.

Easy 5.  It's that time of year when it starts to get a little warm outside.  I think I'll run 8 tomorrow with some 100's.

I ran 9 miles at a steady state pace of 7:42 with 7x100's at the end.  It felt nice and refreshing to run at that pace.  I've had a hard time getting back into it since the bonk in Oklahoma City.  I think I made it through that today.

I ran 8 miles with 6 800's.  I jogged for a quarter mile between each 800.

The first one felt tough, the next three felt a lot easier, the fifth about killed me, and the sixth was not too bad.

Splits: 3:05, 3:01, 3:01, 3:05, 3:16, 3:05

My jogs in between looked like this: 2:10, 2:08, 2:08, 2:14, 2:18.

I felt good to get a workout in.  This was my first real good workout since OK City.

Branson, MO.  1:03:32.  7:51 AP.

We are on vacation this week in Branson, which means I'll be getting plenty of hill workouts.

Yesterday I took Ty on a go cart track called Wild Woody.  It had four stories of uphill fun.  He kept a pretty serious look on his face most of the time, but I knew he was having fun when I shouted out 'woo-hoo' and he yelled out too.

I'm looking forward to taking him to Silver Dollar City today.  He will be able to ride a lot more rides than he did last year.

Branson, MO.  66 degrees. 5:20 AM.  Tempo run 2x3 miles with 2 mile warmup and five minute cool down.  I jogged for 3:15 in between the two 3 miles repeats.

My average pace 7:24.

First 3 mile set splits:

6:57, 7:02, 7:01

Second 3 mile set splits:

7:05, 7:04, 7:03

I would have done these splits about 10 to 15 seconds faster, but for several factors.  First of all the hills out here are beastly.   Yesterday we spent 8 hours walking and playing with Ty at Silver Dollar City.  Considering all of that this was all I could muster and I'm happy about it.

Branson, MO.  5:33 AM.  63 degrees.

Mid week MLR. 7:57 AP.

My legs felt a little bit heavy today.  I think that's because I've been getting such a good workout in on these hills all week.  I'm looking forward to Riding The Ducks this morning and enjoying a nice glass of wine this evening with my book as our Branson vacation rolls along.

Branson, MO.

35 minute rhythm run.  Splits: 7:43, 7:31, 7:10, 6:58, 6:47.

I then recovered by jogging for 1:30.

I then ran 3 200's with 50 second recovery jogs.  0:44, 0:43, 0:44

Just like my tempo run this week I definitely felt the Branson hills and the fatigue of spending a lot of time sightseeing and playing.
