Personal:

I'm married to a very supportive, although slightly less enthusiastic runner than I.  Alisha has run a little with me and participated in several 5k's, but mostly she supports me at races.  She ran her first half in November, 2011.  We have a son who was born in 2010, the year that I ran my first marathon.  I participated in my first Triathlon in April 2011.  I think I may have been bitten by the Ironman bug.  Though an Ironman finish is a long term goal, I want to BQ first.

I find that the more I run the more I want to run.  I consider my self a running addict.  I like the motto: pain is weakness leaving your body.

9 miles at a 7:09 pace on New Years Day.  I ran this one just a little bit harder than I was comfortable with given my current condition.  I feel like I pushed myself just enough to feel really good about this run.  I especially feel good since I've been slacking on my number of runs per week lately.

I got an 8 mile run in this morning with Kevin. The 6 degree wind chill from the 18 mph north wind was not so nice, but the work out was incredible.

The screw shoes rose to the occasion once again.  8:14 AP.

8 miles at 1 degree wind chill.  I was only miserable for the first 2 miles.  Once I warmed up this run was moderately enjoyable.  I wore my had and ear warmers.  I probably should have gone ski mask because I was picking ice crystals out of my beard.

I attempted the first tempo run of the year and on the first week of the Hal Higdon half marathon advanced program.  I modified the porgram slightly because his distances are mostly all in minutes, but I like to plan out the miles.

Today I intended on running 6 miles with 4 at tempo pace.  Splits: 8:11, 6:46, 6:39, 6:57, 6:53, 8:25.  So I ended up running one that would qualify as a tempo, but since my half marathon goal pace is 6:52 or less I ended up running about 2 at half pace and one at marathon pace.

The good thing is that I get another attempt next week.  I really want to take this spring to focus on my speed.  The tempo has always been my weakest link.

Temperature:  21, feels like 2.  22 mph winds.  I might have stayed in bed had this been a less important workout.  Those 400's running into the north wind were tough.

6 w/4 at tempo pace. 1 WU and 1 CD. (22 mph winds, Wind Chill 1). I ran the third tempo mile all into the north wind and slightly up hill. The fourth tempo mile was partially into the wind. Between the high winds and the cold I just didn't have the energy to hold my tempo pace this morning. Splits: 7:05, 6:45, 6:28, 7:04, 7:09, 8:09.

I bought a 6 pack of socks recently.  I ran for the first time in one of them this morning and took my shoes off when I got home to find holes in the big toe area of both sides.  Hopefully that was just a fluke with the one pair.

How's it going lately, Brunsonator?

From Daniel Brunson on Wed, Apr 16, 2014 at 06:53:13 from 68.0.88.70

It's going well Burt. Thanks for asking! I broke my humerus about nine weeks ago and had to have surgery. I should have blogged about it because it happened running. I slipped on ice early one Sunday morning on a long run. The doc has not cleared me for running yet, but I hope to be back soon. How's it going with you?

From Burt on Wed, Apr 16, 2014 at 10:21:42 from 174.17.222.198

Sorry to hear that. But at least you know you'll heal up. Going good with me. Just quit my day job and am starting my own business. Hoping that will free me up to be able to run more :)

From SlowJoe on Sat, Apr 26, 2014 at 15:35:29 from 66.69.93.8

Ah, you don't need that bone for running - get out there! Just kidding, sounds pretty painful. Hope you are on the mend and healed up soon.
